About Technology classes @CIC

Technology Courses are mandated by MYP (Middle Years Program) now. This course will be project-based, involving both individual and group work and graded using the MYP technology rubric.

Goals:

The main goal of this course is students will be capable to chose, from a variety of different media, which one works better for his specific task or need. The focus is on problem solving.

This course offers to students great potential for reinforcing and integrating skills learned in other disciplines, especially in the presentation and handling of data .At the same time, it fosters awareness of the social and ethical implications of technological development.

Method:

The course consists in a series of projects and assignments that allow students to display ingenuity and creativity and to devise practical solutions to given tasks by following the design cycle process of investigation, , planning, creation, evaluation, and Attitudes in Technology.

Requirements:

Students are expected to arrive on time, prepared to work (notebook, pencil, and agenda).

Only English is to be used in the class.

End of class period duties include logging off computers & straightening work station.

Grading:

All assignments and projects Will be evaluated using the MYP technology rubric and the MYP grade scale, which is out of 7.

It is expected that every student follows the Design Cycle Process as possible in every assignment:

Criterion A: Investigate (Define the task)

Criterion B: Design (Generate ideas)

Criterion C: Plan (Organize time and resources)

Criterion D: Create (Process Journal)

Criterion E: Evaluate (Analyze and suggest improvements)

Criterion F: Attitudes in Technology (Self motivation, independence, cooperation…)

Each Criterion has a weight of 16.66%

Software:

The pieces of software we are going to use during this Semestre Course are:

Picasa, Gmail, Bloggers, Open Office, Firefox, del.icio.us, Creative Commons, Survey Monkey, Flickr, and more!!!

Assignment #2: Create an interactive crossword puzzle using Microsoft Excel.

The problem: You have to design and create an Interactive Crossword Puzzle in Microsoft Excel. The Rules:
  1. It has to be, at least, 5 words in vertical direction and 5 words horizontal direction.
  2. The topic is related with ESOL.
  3. It has to be interactive.
  4. Incorrect letters turn in RED
